Found a Typewriter at an Estate Sale?

Do not plug it in immediately

Unknown electrical machines may have brittle cords, failed capacitors, seized mechanisms, or incorrect voltage history.

Check the carriage lock

If the carriage does not move, locate the transport lock before assuming it is broken. Never force it.

Look for the case and paperwork

Manuals, receipts, dealer cards, brushes, covers, and original cases may be stored separately.

Record the serial number

Photograph it before moving or cleaning the machine, then follow the identification workflow.
